So, um, a 11,500 word story in under twenty-four hours (and I even slept a full night, too)? There goes not getting into that fandom...and I was trying so hard! I really gotta stop avoiding SGA with such tenacity; backing away slowly from that gap-toothed fangirl devouring monster, I keep walking backwards straight into the mouths of beasties I didn't see coming. But you gotta admit, Psych is cute...

...what do you mean, you're not watching Psych? Whyever not?

Why? Because it's funny, and cute, and funny, and it's got the bestest theme song ever written and performed by the show's creator, and Shawn & Gus are such classic buddies and best-friends-forever-or-at-least-since-they-were-eight, and it's got great char dynamics between all the dynamic chars, and Shawn Spencer is a young Peter Venkman, if instead of busting ghosts Venkman had gotten a gig consulting for the police as a fake psychic detective.

(The problem with Shawn is that even fully realizing that he is possibly the dumbest genius you'll ever meet and one of the most annoying individuals on the planet, if not the entire solar system...it doesn't take much deductive reasoning to pick up on that...one sort of finds oneself developing a helpless crush on him anyway. At least wherein the value of one (1) = me (X-parrot).)

(And the problem with Psych in general is that it's pretty consistently a comedy - albeit a black one at times - and therefore leaves me craving angst and trauma and h/c and all that good stuff. Because I am a sick person.)

(An extra sick person, because did I mention those 11K words are dark-fic? Dammit, I won't even read death-fic. Why do I keep writing them?)

...

(Also, while I'm at it, last season's Brit Idol-style TV show 'Any Dream Will Do?' = (boys who can sing hugging + boys hugging while they sing + (boys hugging + boys singing)) x John Barrowmanin glasses = X-parrot's happy place. Awws! ...I just admitted to liking reality TV. I now go to commit ritual sacrifice on the altar of dramatic television.)

...

Rats. My hyaku-en watch just died. *sadface*

^^ We've started watching Psych--it's fun! MAK is especially gleeful about it, so I had to tell you and thank you for the recommendation. :)

Soooooo, how much does one have to have seen to read your fic...? (Ack, death fic, is it? Eep...?)

Hee, isn't it fun? Glad you're both enjoying it!

The show's so episodic, you really don't need much to get a handle on it, but you probably should see 1st season to get a full grasp on the char dynamics and such...eh, I won't be posting it for a bit anyway. And I'm also doing a more classic h/c angst thing, this one story just, uh, happened...?

Eheheh *blush* Don't count your fic-chickens before they're hatched! Er...posted? Trying to write for a comedy show? all wrong for angst-whore me! But nope, it isn't stopping me anyway... ^^; (and eee isn't it a fun little show?)

I hate death-fic! I really don't know why I end up writing them (except that I say, upon reading bad-fic, 'but char X would never do that!' & [livejournal.com profile] gnine says 'but what if Y happened to char Z?' & I say, 'Oh, well, in that case,' and then I have a wacky dark futurefic AU on my hand... >.>)
Need to whip the fic in question into some sort of shape before posting (this post was sort of gloatingly triumphant as I've been blocked on most writing lately, but it was only an hour after finishing the story, and by the last scenes I was writing "the airport tournament" when I meant "terminal", sooo...)

*is scared of the Psych dark fic but will read it anyway as long as there is good fake vision swooning* Frankly, I'd just be excited to see any Psych fic of any substance. Most of what I've found is cute and short (not that that's bad). See, I keep writing Psych PWP (in my head), and I never read PWP, so I need to come up with a plot to stick the porn into. That sounds dirty. Anyway Psych fic! Yay!

Sadly, no fake vision swooning ^^;;; (really, it's a tragedy, because Shawn's interpretive dance routines are some of my favorite bits.) The dark-fic's a oneshot future AU sort of mess...also doing more conventional h/c-ish angst (and ummmm why am I writing more than one, the heck?! Dangit, show, why must you be so cute?)

Other than writing angst for something that's major defining quality is always funny, my biggest problem is I somehow missed the pairing boat entirely on Psych, back on my gen friendshippy angst-h/c express, so... ^^;

I *love* that show! And the only channel running it up here in the great white north bumped it for some stupid reality show until they get new episodes. *cries*

I have been dying for more people to watch Psych. I felt like the first season was a little uneven somehow, I had such a terrible time liking Shawn because he was so obnoxious and I wasn't sure he was supposed to come off that way. But once the second season rolled around, it feels like the show has really found it's groove and it's practically become my #1 must-see show. (The other show that's fantastic right now is Burn Notice, which I am utterly entranced by.) I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who finds Shawn annoying sometimes but still loves him helplessly anyway. <3

*perks up* Fic?

Heee! Psych was one of those shows I had never even heard of, and then a few weeks ago out of nowhere I saw it mentioned in 3 different places, figured it for a Sign from the fandom deities. 1st season I think was best watched all at once, because yeah, Shawn is so ridiculously, impressively obnoxious, but then he does do good work, and he does genuinely care, and, yeah...you kinda fall for him even knowing you shouldn't. & 2nd season's been consistently solid...like the way Gus has moved from reluctant sidekick to full partner, and how the cops are dealing with Shawn these days. I think the show does a pretty great job with chars who are humorously annoying but human enough to be likable anyway.

Burn Notice! The bro told me that's Must-See-TV but I haven't gotten around to the Seeing part yet.

I gotta clarify, 'Psych fic' for me means 'gen angst' because I somehow missed the pairing boat entirely. ^^; (the slash is such that I'm like, well yes Shawn&Gus could be together but would that change anything?? and Shawn/Lassie is there but has yet to move me and what would happen to Gus? And het-wise I'm suffering from this weird condition that I love Juliet to bits but my skin crawls at Shawn/Jules UST, so...)

I was wondering if it was just me, if I was just in the right frame of mind for Psych when the second season started (because I never finished the first season) or if it really had worked out the kinks by then. But it seemed like all of the other characters in season 1 were always getting shafted by the show needing to make Shawn always the winner. Always getting the last line, always getting away with being obnoxious, while leaving everyone else floundering in the dust behind him as he skipped away. Season 2 has Gus actually pulling weight in their operation/partnership, sometimes other people get to get the last word in, other people sometimes get to make Shawn's life annoying, and his character has toned down a lot.

I've always liked the way the show handled Lassiter, he's never really been a bad guy, he's just a cop who doesn't like Shawn, rather than someone you wanted to hate. Season two makes him even better and I think... I think if I were going to ship anything, it would be Lassiter/Juliet, but even that I'm sort of "meh" on, because I like the show as light-hearted gen with dashes of black humor. I wouldn't run away screaming from Shawn&Gus, but I wouldn't say I ship it, either. Shawn/Lassie could be there, but it hasn't moved me, either. I think they do grudgingly respect each other way deep down, but not enough for a pairing yet, not even rival slash for me.

So, I'm all over genfic for this series, because I would like to read some, but I'm sort of afraid of wading into the fandom. XD

Heh! I'm used to sitting all by my lonesome in the gen section, so it's great to know I'm not alone in this one! This is pretty much exactly my take on pairings...none of them are anathema to me, but none of them really do it for me either. And if I had to choose it would be Lassiter/Juliet - omg their love is so police-procedural! - But they're just so darn cute as partners, I don't want to see that dynamic messed up (the one where they get the new bullet-proof vests and are excitedly making powerpoint presentations together? heee!)

Wait wait, does this mean you haven't seen the end of season 1 yet? Eep! Go! Watch! The second half of the season had my favorite eps (the Scary Sherry finale has allllmost a bit of angst & also made me love Juliet forever & always amen. And then there's Shawn playing poker!!! ...erm maybe it's just me, I don't know a spade from a diamond but card-playing genius guys turn me on, bad.) But yeah, I like the way the show's gotten more balanced, especially how Gus increasingly is getting back at Shawn. The only thing about 2nd season is that it seems like Henry's in it less, and he & Shawn have such a...erm...relationship (I love how Henry's such a hardass, but then, the more you see of Shawn, the more you have to sympathize with Henry, having to raise a kid like that!)

(okay, will stop before I exceed my exclamation point quota. I kinda like this show more than I really should ^^;)

Heh! I'm just about to jump on the Psych bandwagon, because I watched the first episode and really liked it, so I've borrowed season 1 from a friend on my whirlwind tour of the Ithaca and Boston area, and I'll start watching it when I get back to Fairbanks. Shawn and Gus are very cute; I can really see myself liking this show!

"Gap-toothed fangirl-devouring monster" ... heeeee! Sadly true.

SGA is dangerous, dude! Fangirls who go there don't come back! (well, they do. but they tend to be so squeeful that they're hardly human anymore! Or somesuch... XD)

Psych is a lotta fun, hope you enjoy the rest of it! & Shawn & Gus are absolutely adorable, in a classic always-smacking-each-other guy way...

(Hee and homesick awww to Ithaca & Boston - as well as working at Cornell for a couple years, I grew up an hour outside of Boston, so you're pretty much covering all my old stomping grounds...)

I really feel like your fandoms and my fandoms are running neck and neck. From GetBackers and Saiyuki to Doctor Who and Supernatural, you're hitting them all. And now Psych. It's seriously amazing. And I LOVE it.

Obviously you have excellent taste! XD (actually I'm a big Dresden Files fan, too, but bookverse-only as I read that first, and the single ep of the TV show I've seen threw me off, since it was missing a lot of what I liked most about the books. Including my fave char, so... ^^;)

I like Psych way more than I should, really. It's such a ridiculous little show, but...awws!

Hee, why than you!

As a fan of the Dresden Files books first, the show did throw me off when I first started watching it. But seriously, give it another try. The latter episodes gave me the friendship/angst/mythology angle I love so much in fandoms with the show's revamp of the Harry and Bob relationship.

I sometimes frown at myself for liking Psych so much, but seriously, I heart that show.
