To make up for my last Psych fic, this one isn't depressing. Crack-y, more like. In my defense it seemed like a good idea at the time, which was very early in the A.M. (it usually is.)

As I said before, I'm all about the gen in this fandom. But this...might be slash. Or maybe it isn't. You'll have to ask Gus. No slashers were harmed in the making of this story, and any resemblance to any real persons or fictional stories is entirely coincidental. --Really; I haven't read much in the way of Psych-slash at all.

...Unlike Gus. Much to his chagrin.

Psych: Read Between the Lines; or, Slash and the Modern Psychic Investigator {3,659 words}
PG-13 for. Er. Suggestive imagery.
Shawn Spencer will break down the fourth wall with a laser printer to get what he wants.

Psych: A Whisper to the Living {12,102 words}
PG-13, gen futurefic (AU variety that will never happen in the show, thank goodness), drama, angst (oddly, more drama than angst.)
Ten years after the Psych agency closed, Shawn Spencer returns to Santa Barbara.

So here's that fic I was talking about before. Let me just establish for the record that this story is pretty much nothing like the show whatsoever. It's not really dark-fic except in that it's a tragedy written for a comedy, and, uh, no, I have no idea what is wrong with me.

Concerning Psych, this vid which I can't stop watching perfectly captures what it's really about, that is, zany antics and cute chars being idiotic. And idiotically cute. --Incidentally the last ep (mid-season hiatus finale, dang cable shows) was much with the hysterical, between the ducking at 'retirement' and Kevin Sorbo and the various frantic dives for the phone and "Been a long time since we've napped together" and also Lassie called him Shawn! Is that the first time? Like, omg squee!!!1! (...okay, yes, I'm fanning on this show more than I ought to be. I dunno, I can't help it.) Though I could've done without the final scene, oh please, show, don't go there, I love Juliet to bits but please, no.

Anyway. Here's the fic that I didn't mean to write. Plotted in collusion with [livejournal.com profile] gnine, because two angst-loving fangirls are always worse than one, and we have a bad tendency to ask 'What if...?' a lot. I'm not actually going to say that the best ideas here were hers, but...they probably were.

WARNINGS: Character death. Considering how I hate deathfic as a rule, it's odd how many I find myself writing. Also, there's no pairings. Sorry, 'shippers, I'm all about the gen in this fandom.

So, um, a 11,500 word story in under twenty-four hours (and I even slept a full night, too)? There goes not getting into that fandom...and I was trying so hard! I really gotta stop avoiding SGA with such tenacity; backing away slowly from that gap-toothed fangirl devouring monster, I keep walking backwards straight into the mouths of beasties I didn't see coming. But you gotta admit, Psych is cute...

...what do you mean, you're not watching Psych? Whyever not?

Why? Because it's funny, and cute, and funny, and it's got the bestest theme song ever written and performed by the show's creator, and Shawn & Gus are such classic buddies and best-friends-forever-or-at-least-since-they-were-eight, and it's got great char dynamics between all the dynamic chars, and Shawn Spencer is a young Peter Venkman, if instead of busting ghosts Venkman had gotten a gig consulting for the police as a fake psychic detective.

(The problem with Shawn is that even fully realizing that he is possibly the dumbest genius you'll ever meet and one of the most annoying individuals on the planet, if not the entire solar system...it doesn't take much deductive reasoning to pick up on that...one sort of finds oneself developing a helpless crush on him anyway. At least wherein the value of one (1) = me (X-parrot).)

(And the problem with Psych in general is that it's pretty consistently a comedy - albeit a black one at times - and therefore leaves me craving angst and trauma and h/c and all that good stuff. Because I am a sick person.)

(An extra sick person, because did I mention those 11K words are dark-fic? Dammit, I won't even read death-fic. Why do I keep writing them?)

...

(Also, while I'm at it, last season's Brit Idol-style TV show 'Any Dream Will Do?' = (boys who can sing hugging + boys hugging while they sing + (boys hugging + boys singing)) x John Barrowmanin glasses = X-parrot's happy place. Awws! ...I just admitted to liking reality TV. I now go to commit ritual sacrifice on the altar of dramatic television.)

...

Rats. My hyaku-en watch just died. *sadface*
