xparrot: Chopper reading (doctor who - up up and away)

Been busy with work and family visiting and also, of course, my shiny new SGA obsession - may I just say how good it feels to be fanning hardcore on a show I actually enjoy watching. --This is the norm, really; SV was the exception, being in fact painful to endure. Though I'm enjoying it more now that I've gone back to my original method of watching the Lex Show and fast-forwarding through anything not Luthor-esque.

And this show has lately provided surprising satisfaction... Haven't seen "Blue" yet but the previous eps - well! The subtext? She is not so subtexty anymore, no? Both subtexts, because unless I'm misreading things, the Lex-nalysis has been confirmed. Lex is trying to save the world. Which...I don't know what the show is trying to do, unless it's making Lex into an anti-hero. He's not a good guy, but I don't care how many times Lana tells us Lex can't save the world; who cares what his motivation is, if he's actually doing it? Lex isn't fighting some imaginary threat here - the alien invaders are real! And dangerous! I'm completely confused whose side we're supposed to be on; at this point I doubt the writers know or care. --seriously, right now; they're more concerned with getting an actual income. But putting that aside. I'm on Lex's side again.

Then, after 7 seasons, the Clexana has suddenly gotten interesting. Mainly because the show also has confirmed that it is, as we always knew, all about the Clex. And then the Clex was pretty much made canon, far as I can tell. Lionel states outright that Lex is obsessed with Clark and anyone close to him; then Lex tells Clark that love can become obsession, and obsession lasts forever, and - cue the fangirl squealing. It's all we've wanted them to be from the beginning. (Well, barring a clone becoming Lex Luthor while the real Lex hides out with the Kents and lives happily ever after with Clark...)

While I'm at it, I have to say, Lana is far more fascinating as a villain than as a wanna-be heroine. It's either tragic or pathetic that it took the desire for vengeance for her true skills to be revealed - but she's a more dynamic character for the sneaky spying and treachery. Still don't think KK can act her way out of a cardboard barn, but Lana's more a plus than a minus in the show for probably the first time ever, now that they're admitting she's more diabolic than angelic. She's also making Lex look good, being way more self-centered, caring only about making Lex pay...

...I just hope she doesn't turn out to be a clone. I am also officially stating the Lanex theory, that at the end of the season, Lana is going to knock off Lex, shave her head, get a sex change, and install herself as the true Lex Luthor. She's way closer to being the JLU Lex than MR's Lex ever has been...

But enough about SV. Onto the squee! You all have seen the new Doctor Who Children in Need special, yes? Yes! Excellent!

BWAHAHAHAH OMG OMG OMG SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

It was the "beard" line. Oh god. Oh, Stephen Moffat. I take back anything questionable I might have said about you and love you forever. We had to pause it just so we could scream and scream. I...I...I...I love my show. So very, very, very much.

Also must adore the bit with the "you changed the desktop theme!" And the celery. And the joyous fanboying. And also I still love David Tennant's Doctor like I love breathing, or the original Star Wars. Oh, oh, Doctor...

I can't wait for Christmas!

And last but by no means least, there's SGA. Okay. I have to admit it somewhere, and it may as well be here: I definitely like Carter more than Weir.

This is helped because I just watched SG-1 s9-10, aka Stargate Command, aka Farscape: SG-1. Which is kind of awesome, if a totally different show than what came before. When I first heard SG-1 was canceled, I was relieved; 10 seasons is far longer than most shows can manage, and SG-1 had already started to falter by s4-5. But it picked up again in those last two seasons, and watching them now I'm actually disappointed it was canceled; they could've done more with it. It's not really a show I'd fan on anymore, but it's tremendously entertaining action SF. And let's face it, I love Ben Browder and Claudia Black almost as much as I adore Michael Shanks's Daniel, and would love to see lots more of them in any role. (I honestly can't tell if I really liked Cam Mitchell as a character, because he's BB and so I couldn't help but love. Even if there was a distressing lack of focus on his magnificent rear. FarScape so spoiled me when it came to the ass shots.) Also, Daniel/Vala/Cam OT3 for the win!

But anyway, watching SG-1 again reminded me that yeah, I actually kind of totally love Carter/Amanda Tapping (especially when she's doing completely platonic friendship with the guys. Oh, man, I love platonic m-f friendship so much it hurts. Hence my desperate wish for more Teyla-Rodney interaction.) And she's just awesome in SGA. In "The Seer", confronting the Wraith? Not so much as flinching when he put out his hand, because this is Colonel Samantha Carter and she's gone up against System Lords and Ascended Ancients and Ori Priors, and after that, a space-bug vampire? Is nothing.

Though, now having seen the end of SG-1, I still do have one major problem with Carter joining SGA. So. Umm. The Ori threat? Is still out there, their crusade is still coming, their messiah is now Ascended, and they let Carter go to Atlantis? I can understand that she might want to be moving along in her career, getting her own command, but, umm...the Milky Way kind of needs her. Does anyone know if the upcoming movies might take place before SGA s4, and could explain this? Not to mention, now there's her and McKay, Earth's two top geniuses, both on Atlantis, the Safest Place In The Universe only the exact opposite of that...ever heard of not putting all your stratospheric-IQ eggs in one basket? Or Ancient city?

Speaking of McKay...so it's been established that most of the Wraith in the galaxy know that Rodney's the top scientist with the mad Replicator-rewriting skillz. I really, badly hope we see more with this. And by "more" I mean "Rodney kidnapped and tortured by the Wraith". Oh man, please...and Ronon can be imprisoned with him to hold him together through it, and Sheppard and Teyla can mount the rescue mission, and...oh, you have no idea how badly I want to see this. I can taste it. Mmmm...h/c!

(also, in case anyone was wondering, yep, still madly and hysterically in love with McKay. Still don't see the McShep, though. Not sure what the heck's up with my slash gene; it was pinging on the Cam/Daniel like anything, but Sheppard & McKay...they're bestest friends ever, but I can't see it as more than that. Perhaps because the chars have too many other things to do to bother with sex. Or maybe because half the time they act like five-year-olds together? Regardless, the little moment in "The Seer" when Sheppard was all, "it wasn't your fault, I gave the order, let me shoulder some of this burden of blame," and Rodney was like, "fuck that, my guilt, all mine!"...aww. Killed me dead. Oh, Rodney...)

(That being said, man. The SG teams' track record is something else. Between SG-1 unleashing the Ori on the Milky Way, and Sheppard waking the Wraith, and now the Replicators going all 4th-season Vorlon thanks to McKay's tinkering...some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed!)

Ooooh, that sounds good *g* I felt meh about many episodes of the show, too (I loved the fic far more - but there's hardly a show for which that isn't true) so if it gets *better* instead of worse... I see a project for spring break :DDD
