SGA 4x18 + bonus crack
Feb. 24th, 2008 06:45 pmOn "Kindred Pt.1":
I have a lot of problems with Mallozzi's writing (I feel sorry for the guy; from his blog, he genuinely loves the show, he just...doesn't have much talent for screenwriting. Sorry, honey. I mean, man - Keller actually says "As you know..." That's Screenwriting 101: How Not To Start Your Exposition! And he writes the chars so shallow and I'm not going to go into my problems with his Rodney characterization because there I just get picky and sensitive.) But the ep did have interesting stuff, and man I'm curious how next week's is gonna go. Don't spoil me, please, I already know more than I wish I did. (Living with
gnine makes spoiler-avoiding a logistic impossibility...it's hard to miss the squeeing when it's happening one room over!)
On the cliche of Teyla having a 'magic baby' - I don't think Michael's messed with Teyla's baby yet, but it looks like the kid might be potentially special due to its DNA - born of two Wraith-sensers, and Teyla at least is a pretty powerful one. "Spoilers of War" implied the baby's got strong Wraith-genes...I was guessing then that Kanan also had the gift, so I was glad to hear that supposition confirmed. It doesn't bother me as much as it might because at least the baby came by his genetics naturally.
Oh, Lorne. He looked so understandably nervous, coming back through the gate Teyla-less.
Michael!!! Is such a deranged supervillain. I luffs him muchly for it. And Todd now officially makes me squee just by appearing (Todd and Michael totally should ally and take over the galaxy! Todd/Michael in 2008!)
You gotta love John with his Sheppardian priorities, upon hearing that Teyla's on Michael's ship, his panicked, 'Oh nono, you can't shoot 'em down!' and Caldwell (yays Caldwell!) sighs and complies, because of course Sheppard thinks nothing of endangering the entire Daedalus crew when the life of his teammate (two teammates, really, considering Teyla's fetus!) is at stake.
And I was already spoiled for the end, but, yeah. Next ep NOW plzkthx.

seperis so you've likely seen it already, even if you missed MTV back in the '80s, but if you haven't, the original video for Total Eclipse of the Heart is...well. There's crack, and then there's crack, and THEN there's dancing ninjas. Not to mention the football players?

Date: 2008-02-24 04:04 pm (UTC)I thought the episode was ok, if mostly predictible, and it was nice to see the team together again for a little bit. We'll see how next week goes.

Date: 2008-02-24 07:17 pm (UTC)But I liked the teaminess of the ep (and enjoyed it more on rewatching. Funny how SGA works like that...)

Date: 2008-02-24 07:03 pm (UTC)Also, did EVERY music video from the '80s have gauzy curtains blowing in the wind?
I missed the whole MTV phenomenon (we never had cable) so I've pretty much caught up on the 80s via Youtube. *pets Youtube* Whatever happened to the cheerful, cheesy lunacy of 1980s music videos, anyway? Nowadays the singers just lounge around and emote into the camera under lighting that makes them look like corpses. XD Well ... unless they're Aqua. Have you seen Aqua's music videos? They're insane. But in a funny sort of way.

Date: 2008-02-24 07:22 pm (UTC)Aqua, eh? Well, if their videos match their music...(I've gone through phases of putting "Cartoon Heroes" on repeat...)

Date: 2008-02-24 10:27 pm (UTC)Season 2's "Intruder" I enjoyed very, very much and Joe wrote that so I know he's capable of better. At least he got all these crazy plot points together n a pretty seamless way and it was boring at all, just as we all know a ton of set up.

Date: 2008-02-25 05:16 am (UTC)Did Mallozzi or Mullie write "Intruder"? We've been trying to figure out which of them is responsible for which eps (I've been tempted to ask on his blog.) I also really quite like s2's "Suspicion"...
Mallozzi at least does like writing the team together, which is always something. Still, every time we see him listed for writing an ep we always do a little groan. It's tragic!

Date: 2008-02-25 03:11 pm (UTC)Michael is completely and utterly barking, and I can't work out whether I want to laugh at him or fear him...possibly both at the same time. And Todd is just awesome. It's so so so good to have a Wraith with personality, and who banters back. All good.
The radio call to Caldwell was so good - he outranks Sheppard, but Sheppard isn't even asking, he's telling Caldwell, and Caldwell just does it. Nice :)

Date: 2008-02-26 05:01 pm (UTC)Todd/Michael would RULE! It amuses me so. They make the best crack pairing, too! Oh, Atlantis, and your amazing ability to create far more problems for everyone than anyone else in the whole GALAXY (including the Wraith). ♥ I can't help but be amused! (If I wasn't, I think I'd have more problems with that than I do, but... it's funny, in a really dark kind of way.)
And John and his priorities...! Yes. ♥ Especially love Caldwell just going with it, because he's never going to hear the end of it if Teyla happens to become collateral damage in taking down a ship full of enemy Wraith currently shooting at his ship. (I think he might have hesitated more if it wasn't for their shields holding nicely, and the other ship already having been hurt.)
The look on his face when he realizes who is on the ship the Daedalus is firing on is particularly happy-making to me. ^_^
And then - the end, with ALL their faces and OMGSJLKghldhskahgköhökhKH!!! I knew he was going to show up again, but I was thinking it'd be as part of the repli-team or something - I got the spoiler so long ago I'd kind of forgotten about it already, but EEEEEEEEEEEEE CARSONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!! ♥ ♥ ♥
