xparrot: (happy seal!)
So my brother just introduced me to a new game - Wiki-Cricket! In which you go to Wikipedia, hit the "Random article" link on the left, and keep clicking until you hit something cricket-related. (I ended up here after about 5 minutes of clicking, proving his point that apparently 1% of everything on Wiki is cricket-related. Or else "random" is heavily cricket-weighted for unknown reasons. Perhaps a Douglas Adams fan programmed it?)

This post is brought to you by It Is Too Late At Night, Gintama Will Drive You Mad, and the Letter(s) WTF.

[livejournal.com profile] trinityofone is running a Fannish Bulwer-Lytton Contest, the point of which being to write the most excruciatingly bad opening line for a fanfic you can conceive of. It's cross-fandom (though SGA-heavy) and there's some doozies. My fave of the moment is [livejournal.com profile] siriaeve's, "But it's still early," the raven-haired colonel said to his lover, smiling with all his rarely-hidden emotion visible on his face, "We have not yet had time to coax sweet music from our flutes of love." Yes. FLUTES OF LOVE.

I mention this mainly to distract myself from the awful fact that it is not yet Friday night. (Well, Saturday night for me, but Friday for everyone on the other side of the globe, who actually can get SciFi channel.) I may have watched the previews for "The Shrine" a few more times than is healthy. But...there will be CARRYING! And there will be Jeannie! And conversations on the pier with beer! and...potentially regrettable amounts of Keller. But Woolsey all worried! And possibly (from the MGM pics) Teyla's hand on Rodney's forehead! And John with his arm around Rodney!! And did I mention the CARRYING?!
...This is why I don't like spoilers, there's no way the ep can live up to these expectations! (but it can try...please, try?)

(And this is nothing to say of the fingernail-biting that comes from having 35,000 words that could potentially get jossed by the ep. Well, not most of them. But some of the important ones. So not fair, I started this thing back in January! Why do I write so slowly sometimes? argh!)

ETA: (Also, concerning the previews, I'm trying to determine which voice over is worse. They're both impressively atrocious. SciFi's might win, only because in what universe does, "Is the only cure a death sentence?" make sense in?)

Son of ETA: Brokeback to the Future!!!
(...where do I admit that the first BttF movie is one of my earlier and cherished h/c-lover epiphanies? ...SHUT UP IT WASN'T LIKE THAT. I was in 4th grade! My love was pure and slash-free! Still, this is so wrongly right...)

So I knew that David Hewlett was in this movie Century Hotel (which I have utterly failed to obtain) in which he played a gay man having an affair. In a hotel. Um, something like that. (ETA: the entire DH scene is on youtube here.)

What I didn't realize until just this moment that the guy he was playing opposite was Joel Bissonnette, which doesn't mean anything unless you happen to have watched SciFi Channel's The Invisible Man (many, many times - that show rocked), in which case Joel Bissonnette is better known as evil Swiss genius cum supervillain Dr. Arnaud de Fehrn.

So. In his younger days, Dr. Rodney McKay had a torrid affair with Arnaud.

And there's pictorial evidence to prove it.

...I think my brain just broke. In the best way.

(Quick, someone write me jealous!John!)

(and one more pic for the road, because you can never have too much Hewlett-rear.)

On "Kindred Pt.1":

spoilers )

And, at random, via [livejournal.com profile] thefourthvine here via [livejournal.com profile] seperis so you've likely seen it already, even if you missed MTV back in the '80s, but if you haven't, the original video for Total Eclipse of the Heart is...well. There's crack, and then there's crack, and THEN there's dancing ninjas. Not to mention the football players?
