stuff & nonsense (i.e. why isn't today Friday?)

trinityofone is running a Fannish Bulwer-Lytton Contest, the point of which being to write the most excruciatingly bad opening line for a fanfic you can conceive of. It's cross-fandom (though SGA-heavy) and there's some doozies. My fave of the moment is siriaeve's, "But it's still early," the raven-haired colonel said to his lover, smiling with all his rarely-hidden emotion visible on his face, "We have not yet had time to coax sweet music from our flutes of love." Yes. FLUTES OF LOVE.

I mention this mainly to distract myself from the awful fact that it is not yet Friday night. (Well, Saturday night for me, but Friday for everyone on the other side of the globe, who actually can get SciFi channel.) I may have watched the previews for "The Shrine" a few more times than is healthy. But...there will be CARRYING! And there will be Jeannie! And conversations on the pier with beer! and...potentially regrettable amounts of Keller. But Woolsey all worried! And possibly (from the MGM pics) Teyla's hand on Rodney's forehead! And John with his arm around Rodney!! And did I mention the CARRYING?!
...This is why I don't like spoilers, there's no way the ep can live up to these expectations! (but it can try...please, try?)

(And this is nothing to say of the fingernail-biting that comes from having 35,000 words that could potentially get jossed by the ep. Well, not most of them. But some of the important ones. So not fair, I started this thing back in January! Why do I write so slowly sometimes? argh!)

ETA: (Also, concerning the previews, I'm trying to determine which voice over is worse. They're both impressively atrocious. SciFi's might win, only because in what universe does, "Is the only cure a death sentence?" make sense in?)

(...where do I admit that the first BttF movie is one of my earlier and cherished h/c-lover epiphanies? ...SHUT UP IT WASN'T LIKE THAT. I was in 4th grade! My love was pure and slash-free! Still, this is so wrongly right...)

(See, my expectations are high - as in, hello, spoiled by Hewletts - but I don't have any visuals or anything to go with those spoilers, so it's all in my head, and... my head is keeping expectations down? Um. I dunno.)

Welllllll all that's under the highlights are spoilers from the previews, so it's not anything that most everyone hasn't heard/seen already, and really there's little in the way of specifics (I just blacked 'em out for those ultra-sensitive among y'all ^^) just a couple words mentioning things that pretty much can't go wrong *temptemptempt* share my paaaaaaaaaaaain!

I survived 2 seasons of Torchwood with my fannishness intact. I think I'm immune at this point. Keeping expectations low and squeeing at the bits that make me squee has helped me keep sane...

concerning my capitalized thing: *FLAILS WITH YOU* ZOMG YES. They're really going for displacing "Tao" as my #1 (if I had a checklist, that particular bit from Tao would be on it, so that The Shrine's got it too is a Good Sign!)

Ooooh, are you going to the con that's causing others to miss it (whatever con that is?) or something else? I swear, the Olympic opening ceremony happened just to screw over every SGA/Rodney fangirl in the world. Because this like the worst weekend ever for this ep to air on (I've got my own whinging, me and gnine are apart for the first weekend in about forever - an ocean between us, for the ep we were most looking forward to squeeing in concert over! We're planning to watch it together on the phone anyway, but it won't be the same, waking the neighbors with only my own voice...)

Oh, I wish. I just won't have the chance to DL it - I'm in the UK - until Monday, so I'll be tiptoeing round the flist for a few days. That's normal, I just get bouncy about it when it's a Rodney episode and one that looks keboard-smashingly good! I'm gonna try to get it on saturday, but probably won't have time :S The other half likes Atlantis, but I think squeeing is too unmanly. Or something. It really isn't the same watching it on your own, but it's better than not watching at all!

Ahhh yes...I'm in Japan, so have to DL as well, and occasionally my 'net acts up and I can't get it until Sunday. Except I'm going away this Sunday/Monday, so it's Saturday or bust! (is there any way I can help you get hold of it? Bittorrent often has problems, so I usually get it through direct download via Megaupload or the like, I could pass on the link?)

I'm really worried The Shrine isn't going to live up to my expectations either. The promos and the screencaps just push all my buttons and I'm already imagining the conversation John and Rodney might be having as they sit there drinking beer so I just know that somehow I'm gonna wind up disappointed because I'm totally going into the ep thinking it'll be favoritest ep ever.

Ooh, thanks for the link to the BttF vid. I've seen a bunch of Brokeback riffs, but this one was particularly well done.

Yeah - I confess, I've been mentally writing John & Rodney's pier conversation in my head for several weeks now (ever since Brad Wright referenced it at ComicCon!) so...it's never gonna be as slashy as the version in my head, but then, with Wright's writing, it might be close...! *crosses fingers, hopes for the best*

And hee, glad you enjoyed the vid - it's the best Brokeback riff I've seen, I think (the Western theme makes it work far too well ^^;)
