Just got home, just heard - canceled. Damn it! Why now?
I admit I've been dreading this since I heard they were running the season straight through, rather than showing the second half in January. SciFi wanted to avoid revitalizing the Save Our Show campaigns. Which of course exist already (
fight_for_sga), but I don't have much hope here. The showrunners are happy enough to have movies and move onto Stargate: Universe. Five years is a good run. Unfortunately, while I enjoyed the SG-1 movies, neither were better than mediocre episodes of the show, so it's hard to hope for something great (especially since Mallozzi & Mullie are writing it...and ow, the thought of no more Binder or Gero or McCullough eps, after this...)
Damn it. I just wanted one more season. I would've been out of it in another year (I never stay in a fandom that long) and while I still would've been watching, it wouldn't hurt. Now...now, it hurts. Couldn't they at least have waited to tell us until after "The Shrine" aired? Instead of spoiling all that glorious anticipation?
We've got 15 eps left. Damn it, they better all be awesome...
So it's not all gloom & doom:
friendshipper's got some nice points on the positive aspects of a closed canon (which, as a McShepper, I totally appreciate the end of jossing, as much as it hurts now.) And
sheafrotherdon provides warm fuzzies as always.
And I'll find something new soon enough, I always do.
...Even if it won't have David Hewlett's Rodney McKay. *whimper*

Date: 2008-08-21 09:34 am (UTC)And hey, this at least means we get Rodney McKay all to ourselves....*rubs hands together* No more bad characterisation. No more stories being jossed. Oh, that's definitely an up-side.

Date: 2008-08-21 10:08 am (UTC)Though I'm really bitter, more than anything else, about the hiatus being taken from us. That would've prolonged the life of the fandom for a couple months - all that agonizingly wonderful anticipation (one of my favorite parts of being in an active fandom is looking forward to future possibilities, and now...a few months more, and then there'll be none. No possibilities for annoying things, but no great things, either...)
And oh, I will miss David Hewlett on my screen!

Date: 2008-08-21 10:29 am (UTC)I know that we should be happy to get the movie(s) after that but I still feel sad and crushed especially since the ratings were rising and the show was so good this season.
I really hope that the SGA fans will make TPTB know very loudly how bad their decision was this weekend at GateCon in Vancouver.

Date: 2008-08-21 12:07 pm (UTC)No more Binder, Gero, or McCullough eps really depresses me, because I love them so much! And yes, at least give us until next week... *sigh* I'm pretty bummed about this, but I'm trying to stay upbeat.
Just, agh...

Date: 2008-08-21 12:54 pm (UTC)I am going to miss DH the most of all. His Rodney was the main reason I watched the show, so, just like my continuing love and support of James Marsters, I continue to support the career of David.

Date: 2008-08-21 01:07 pm (UTC)He's a terrific and really prolific actor, so I'm sure it'll be easy to get regular DH fixes. But, yeah, none of them will be like Rodney McKay.
And we can always hope that somehow McKay gets sucked into Stargate: Universe.

Date: 2008-08-21 04:04 pm (UTC)I need to see Thoughtcrimes, just to be able to read the fic (...that I've already seen BvP probably attests to my DH devotion...)

Date: 2008-08-21 05:04 pm (UTC)Yeah, I'd miss the John/Rodney interplay, but my love for Rodney is so complete, I'd be happy with him anywhere, anytime.

Date: 2008-08-21 10:51 pm (UTC)To top it all off, I've had uber problems accessing my livejournal page, including friends-list, finally got through for a moment or two, and this is what I find? ::sigh:: I shall scamper off to
