xparrot: Chopper reading (sga atlantis)
[personal profile] xparrot
Just got home, just heard - canceled. Damn it! Why now?

I admit I've been dreading this since I heard they were running the season straight through, rather than showing the second half in January. SciFi wanted to avoid revitalizing the Save Our Show campaigns. Which of course exist already ([livejournal.com profile] fight_for_sga), but I don't have much hope here. The showrunners are happy enough to have movies and move onto Stargate: Universe. Five years is a good run. Unfortunately, while I enjoyed the SG-1 movies, neither were better than mediocre episodes of the show, so it's hard to hope for something great (especially since Mallozzi & Mullie are writing it...and ow, the thought of no more Binder or Gero or McCullough eps, after this...)

Damn it. I just wanted one more season. I would've been out of it in another year (I never stay in a fandom that long) and while I still would've been watching, it wouldn't hurt. Now...now, it hurts. Couldn't they at least have waited to tell us until after "The Shrine" aired? Instead of spoiling all that glorious anticipation?

We've got 15 eps left. Damn it, they better all be awesome...

So it's not all gloom & doom: [livejournal.com profile] friendshipper's got some nice points on the positive aspects of a closed canon (which, as a McShepper, I totally appreciate the end of jossing, as much as it hurts now.) And [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon provides warm fuzzies as always.

And I'll find something new soon enough, I always do.

...Even if it won't have David Hewlett's Rodney McKay. *whimper*

The comm doesn't even have mail addresses up yet. Where can I send my nice, polite, but also very "I WILL THROW MONEY AT YOU FOR THIS SHOW, PLZ DO SOMETHING". Heh. I'm an old hand at SOS campaigns - remember The Sentinel? I still remember all the advice there - obviously, be polite is a good one. But also - remind them of money you have to throw at them (I gave them my "when I live in the US" zip code, my age, and a list of things I do, like watch it when it airs, buy it off iTunes, and buy DVDs), tell them why you like the show, tell them it's not just you watching... All sorts of useful things.

I don't think it's going to help, but I feel a little better for having written the letter.

I woke up to this this morning, so am still only on my second coffee and trying to process. It'll be alright, but as you say, they'd better go out on a bang. SG1 managed it really well - if SGA doesn't, it's going to make an already sucky situation even worse.

And hey, this at least means we get Rodney McKay all to ourselves....*rubs hands together* No more bad characterisation. No more stories being jossed. Oh, that's definitely an up-side.

I admit that one of my first thoughts was, well, at least they won't be able to bring any romance too far along!

Though I'm really bitter, more than anything else, about the hiatus being taken from us. That would've prolonged the life of the fandom for a couple months - all that agonizingly wonderful anticipation (one of my favorite parts of being in an active fandom is looking forward to future possibilities, and now...a few months more, and then there'll be none. No possibilities for annoying things, but no great things, either...)

And oh, I will miss David Hewlett on my screen!

I wrote to Sci-fi and to MGM, telling them that I always supported the show whereever I could so I consider their decision a low blow and I will think twice of supporting any other shows they make/air after this.

I know that we should be happy to get the movie(s) after that but I still feel sad and crushed especially since the ratings were rising and the show was so good this season.

I really hope that the SGA fans will make TPTB know very loudly how bad their decision was this weekend at GateCon in Vancouver.

I've never invested so much time and energy in a show as I did with SGA. DAMN! I wanted a season 6 so badly. I feel numb right now.

Yes, interesting timing, to announce it right before Gatecon. seems like they'd be setting themselves up for trouble...

I just want SciFi to post tomorrow with a big, "PSYCH"!

I haven't been this hardcore into a TV show for years. And I've never been in a fandom like SGA's. I don't want to say goodbye to it, not yet...*hugs*

May I just say WORD?

No more Binder, Gero, or McCullough eps really depresses me, because I love them so much! And yes, at least give us until next week... *sigh* I'm pretty bummed about this, but I'm trying to stay upbeat.

Just, agh...

Yeah, I think for me, it's not that it's canceled that's getting to me, so much as that it's now, and I wasn't ready...I was thinking the decision wouldn't be until Sept.-Oct., I didn't imagine I'd see this on my flist when I came back from work. So, sorta knocked for a loop...and then, too, I haven't been into SGA even a year; am feeling like I've been cheated out of the full experience...

Yeah, I'm really not thrilled that Mallozzi & Mullie are writing the movie, since they're my least favorite writers in the entire franchise.

I am going to miss DH the most of all. His Rodney was the main reason I watched the show, so, just like my continuing love and support of James Marsters, I continue to support the career of David.

Yup, I've already spent happy time tracking down DH's older stuff, so will definitely be following him into the future! Though still...I doubt I'll ever love any of his other chars as I do Rodney...

But you know, the really neat thing is the crossover fic between DH & JF other movies, my very favorite being the BvP/Thoughtcrimes fic. :-)

He's a terrific and really prolific actor, so I'm sure it'll be easy to get regular DH fixes. But, yeah, none of them will be like Rodney McKay.

And we can always hope that somehow McKay gets sucked into Stargate: Universe.

I know what you mean. It really stinks to really get into a show and have the rug pulled out from under you so soon. I've had that happen to me more times than I can count. SGA is the first time that I've actually been there from the beginning.

Hope you don't mind, but I friended you as I love your fic and your meta.

I've never been in a fandom from the inception, I don't think (save a few anime fandoms where I was at the forefront when they came Westwards) because I am distrustful of shows their first season, so many get canceled. I'm wondering now what I'm going to turn to after SGA, though...

And I see your friending and raise you, uh, a friending! (meant to a while ago and kept forgetting, actually...and thrilled to have you along, the more the merrier *gets all giddy when friended. no really, I'm sad like that*)

But Rodney without John+Team is like chocolate without peanut butter - still delicious but not the same...

I need to see Thoughtcrimes, just to be able to read the fic (...that I've already seen BvP probably attests to my DH devotion...)

I was surprised by the fact that I really liked Thoughtcrimes. It's a really good movie.

Yeah, I'd miss the John/Rodney interplay, but my love for Rodney is so complete, I'd be happy with him anywhere, anytime.

Man, this really sucks. I'm so, so bad at predicting this sort of thing (it's almost to a point that if I think a show is doing a good job, I should start worrying...so now I'm looking at Eureka to go) so this came waaay out of nowhere for me. I don't like these kind of surprises! ::wails::

To top it all off, I've had uber problems accessing my livejournal page, including friends-list, finally got through for a moment or two, and this is what I find? ::sigh:: I shall scamper off to [livejournal.com profile] friendshipper's and [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon's links post haste.
