Two things you have to understand.

A) I discovered Dragonflight in the young-adults section of my local library when I was in the seventh grade; it was my introduction to the science fiction genre, and I read the first trilogies on a bi-monthly basis for several years. This was long before I knew what fanfic was, and I haven't actually read anything in the series for years, but it's deeply carved into my mental fanscape all the same.

B) I don't usually go for the really extreme AU fanfic - don't mind alternate timelines or alternate endings/futures, but when it comes to putting chars in wholly different settings I tend to wonder why not write an original story? Somehow SGA is the exception to this rule, however, because not only are there scads of stories in which John-and-Rodney are living in Texas/living on Nantucket/in an orchestra/penguins?/wild turkeys???/a RAINBOW AND A UNICORN OMGWTFBBQ FANDOM???? - but they're all outrageously entertaining and I'm finding myself craving more. I think it's because the chars, most especially our dear Dr. McKay, have such distinctive voices that wherever you put them or whatever you make them, they're still unmistakably recognizably them.

Given the above, I suppose this was only a matter of time. I'm just astonished someone else didn't beat me to it.

In Smallville, has Clark ever knelt before anyone except for Zod!Lex (excepting times that kryptonite dropped him to his knees)?

Just curious...er, don't ask, there's no way this will make sense unless you're familiar with a certain high fantasy.

Lex could so be a meikun, with the proper motivation...and Clark would make such a pretty kirin...I am so getting [livejournal.com profile] gnine to draw me this!
xparrot: Chopper reading (you did not just do that)
I am placing the blame on [livejournal.com profile] theclexfactor, who occasioned to ask what "purple prose" is. Always a firm believer in teaching by example, I proceeded to provide. And then kept providing, because let's face it, I love run-on sentences as much as the next girl. (If anyone wants to jump in and continue this, feel free - I'm all for a Purple Round Robin!)

Smallville Season 6: A Triangle (Not Unlike That of Bermuda) of Forbiddenly Torrid Passions

Lex gazed deeply into the limpid pools of his beloved's chocolate-hued orbs, his heart fluttering in the depths of his chest like a white dove beating its wings against the gilt cage imprisoning it. "Oh, Lana," the boldly bald billionaire whispered with the lush tenderness of a mother caressing the velvet bottom of her only newborn child, and pressing a sweet kiss to the crown of her shining ebony tresses, he promised, "I will cherish you for this life and all eternity to come."

"Oh, Lex," Lana murmured in return, in a voice as sweet as bear-licked stolen honey dripped from a comb found only with the rarest variety of bee native to the darkest reaches of Africa and, by staggering coincidence, Kansas, due to the tumultuous thrashing of a hurricane some fourteen years prior that traversed a single queen insect over the vast roiling ocean and right into a patch of meteor-influenced daisies, "but," and she sighed, her delicately curved bosom rising and falling with subtle perfection under her shimmering satin shift, "I love Clark, you know."

"Dang it," Lex said.

Meanwhile, several sun-drenched miles distant from Luthor's formidable stone abode, a boy on the precarious cusp of manhood stood in the loft of his family's weathered barn. His eyes, the color of deep-sea kelp waving languidly in the warm drifting waters of the Caribbean where once pirates sailed but were now trawled only by grim gray-toned LuthorCorp aquaculture barges, were fixed on the starkly black plastic frame in his man-sized hands, which enclosed behind clear plexiglas the breathtaking and grief-inspiring visage of the girl of all his dearest childhood fantasies, the daughter of his endless adolescent longings, the mother of his tentatively maturing desires, the sister of his heartrendingly sincere feelings, the aunt of his wistfully seductive endeavors, the niece of his unbelievably lonely tears, the second cousin thrice removed of the agonizingly throbbing manhood in his pants, that purified paragon of all that is beautiful and virtuous, Lana Lang...

I said it before, that I fell for Kaiba because he reminds me of Lex. Brilliant and deeply disturbed, casualties of their sadistic fathers' damage and their own ambitions. Kaiba is the more culpable of the two, having chosen his path rather than being born into it; ironic that he's the one to eventually rise above his darkness, while Lex is ultimately damned. Maybe it's because Lex is destiny's puppet victim, while Kaiba has always forged his own. Or maybe Lex just needs someone to shatter his heart.

Anyway. They're obviously a match made in some dark and deliciously twisted place.

I might've futzed with the YGO timeline; the story is set in the spring of '95, with Lex at 15 and Kaiba at 14 (for anyone flummoxed by imaging the real with the animated, please follow [livejournal.com profile] praiseofshadows's lead and picture Kaiba as played by Gackt). The idea is that Gozaburo sent Seto to an American boarding school for a semester to practice his English; Seto took the opportunity to learn some other valuable life skills from the school's expert. I'm not confident of the characterizations of either one of them, but hell, they're just kids here. Seriously fucked up kids.
