FMA fic

So there's been a recent surge of English Fullmetal Alchemist fic. Well-written FMA fic - very young fandoms often attract talent, I've noticed. Or maybe it's because there's less existing cliches to exploit? Or not having an established fanon take on the chars means everyone follows the canon characterizations more faithfully?

Anyway. I wasn't expecting to get into FMA fic. I especially wasn't intending to write any. The last thing I need is another fandom to fic for. But you know what they say about good intentions...

I, for one, am /not/ complaining about the recent surge in HagaRen fics cos dammit, there's a terrible lack, first off, and they're all such good fics, really. <3<3<3

Beautifully written. <3;;; I really should illustrate Terra's AU idea where Al's back to normal and happily married to Winry (cos we all know THEY'RE MEANT TO BE *shot*) and Ed swings by to utterly spoil Al's kids and... yanno. They deserve to be happy! ;;; But I digress.

So, yeah. XD Lovely. <3<3

But… I can't shoot you! Not after this, anyway. So, yes, getting spread out over fandoms now, but so am I. ^_^ So I'm happy now anyway, because I got FMA fic. Mmm. And it's making me misty-eyed and warm at the same time. It's the hope, the shining hope that there might actually be a better future ahead. A future where most of the pain and guilt can be left behind, keeping only the good things from the past. A future with hugs!

They need more hugs. Ed needs a hug, right? Right. I thought so. Please? ^_^

(Yes, and Winly and Al are perfect for each other! Absolutely.)

*teary eyed* That's good. I like the idea that Winry and Al get together when Al returns to normal. Ed's cool but Al's so sweet. Yay for Al ^_^.

*deep sigh*

That was beautiful. Completely canonical, even though canon hasn't a word to say on the subject, if that makes sense. Just the right kind of spare and bright.

Oh xparrot...you always write so well!

You always seem to capture the essence of the characters to the point that its cannon.

(I started reading your fics way back from your Gravitation days)

If you need any manga for inspiration, I'd be happy to supply scans *will supply inspiration for more FMA fics*

Keep up the good work!

hee - a long-term stalker fan! glad you enjoyed it. And thanks muchly for the offer but my manga is in the mail, should be here any day now (not that I can read half of it anyway ^^;;;;)

I fear it just might inspire me to write more, too...

its funny how I keep running into the same people in different fandoms...

You won't be disappointed with the manga. They've adapted some things for the anime that I think was better portrayed in the manga (like Roy meeting Ed and Al for the first time).

Hopefully my manga guide will come tomorrow so I can have post character bios. That should help some people (as well as clear up the spelling of some of the names).

Looking foward to more fics :)

Al-fic abounds!

That was so beautiful. It really captured the essence of why Al and Ed are so tragic in their current situation (as opposed to the tragedy of their past). I don't know why, exactly, but Al is definitely the better viewpoint for reflecting on this angst - maybe because I get the impression that Ed never thinks it through like Al does, he just feels it and reacts.

Thank you so much for capturing what I could not. You're an excellent writer. Wow. Just ... wow. *sparkles*

happy to hear you liked it - yours was one of the fic I mentioned that moved me to write this. The Al POV is probably your fault ^^
You're right, Al is the easier one to write such reflections. Al thinks, Ed feels - such an interesting symbiosis these boys have. (Also, Al's situation is the sadder, though I doubt he'd agree...)

*blushes* I'm glad I could inspire you. ^__^ The world needs more FMA fic, and this was certainly a lovely addition. I'll have to write more so you're inspired again! :)

I also have to agree Al's situation is the sadder one, but again, that symbiosis ... Ed's memories are the tougher ones, if only because he can still feel the pain of them in a way that Al can't. I continue to maintain that this is why Al is able to quickly move on from Nina's death when Ed can't get past it.

Something I wonder about is what Ed did with the monsterific remains of his mother's not-body. It was breathing, living, ugly and raw but alive. Did Ed kill it? Was it suffering? It didn't seem to be moving when Al woke up in his new body, so I'm kind of wondering ...

*hugs Al* When you get your body back, we'll have a huge party with lots more hugging involved, okay? ^^;;

Wow. This was beautifully written and SO Al is was scary. I loved the concept and the way you presented it was so wonderful! It made me all happy and fuzzy feeling! *giggles* I do hope you get into writing more fics because you're amazing at it! So keep it up, k? Not enough writers for this fandom yet.

Go see FMA. now. you won't regret it. (tho' if you don't know anything about it...hmmm, did the story actually make sense? ^^;;;)

And get GetBackers while you're at it. Then get into the manga and you can join us freaking out on a weekly basis over the latest chapters...(I'll warn you now that GB is in a different mold than FMA or Saiyuki. Comedy, not angst. Tho' Ban & Ginji are so co-dependent they can make Gojyo & Hakkai look un-obsessed...)

That... was beautiful. A gorgeous, delicious piece of fiction. The character dynamics in this series are so awesome, and you captured them wonderfully and delicately.

Thank you. ^_^
