Fic: All the Difference, part 4
Mar. 9th, 2007 02:46 pmAm I posting too much fic? ^^; But I can't stop writing! Lex & Clark have quite invaded my brain. We've gotten to 5th season in our show-watching, which is squeefully Clexy in its own way, at least until the Lexana appears; then I shall have to go spork my eyeballs.
Gratitude to
gnine for beta'ing this, she's been doing a great job with that thankless task (I am the worst person at taking criticism in the world. I whine. And carry on like every word I've written is a precious son or daughter, perfect the way it is, unless of course I deem it necessary to change. Fortunately she tells me anyway, especially good in the case of this fic, because either Lex is given to exceedingly long and unwieldy sentences; the guy's thoughts are twisty.)
Smallville: All the Difference, 4/? {4,002 words}
PG, Clark/Lex, futurefic, AU (in a manner of speaking)
Lex Luthor wakes up in his own bed in his own penthouse, infinitely far from all he knows. Meanwhile, Lex Luthor wakes up in his own bed in his own penthouse, just as far from home...
( Part 4: In which another Lex meets with another Bruce Wayne, and then another Superman. )

This started out completely self-indulgent, because on occasion I like my boys bombed out of their skulls (see Ban in The Mickey) and Lex will do it to himself, which makes him more cooperative than most. Given how Lex drinks scotch like it's vodka*, he can't like being in his head terribly much. Except it went all horribly weirdly angsty on me and why can't I write fluff? I crave Clex fluff. And then I write this. Man.
* to quote Elliot on Scrubs, a couple eps ago.
Smallville: String Theory at 1 AM {3,146 words}
PG, Clex-ish angst, near-futurefic
Lex has vision, a reason for everything, and a lot to drink.
Read it on AO3
ETA:
digitalwave did an absolutely lovely manip for this story (and it's sweet, too, not angsty!)
Beloved Enemy
Thank you so much! <3 Fanart makes my week!

Fic: All the Difference, part 3
Mar. 4th, 2007 02:20 pmAfter watching JLU concurrently with Smallville, it's difficult to keep their canons from getting entwined in my mind, especially since the SV Clex backstory fits in so nicely into the tetchy Supes/Luthor relationship JLU presents. However, I never intended for this story to be a crossover. Therefore I'm at a loss to explain how the Batman keeps sneaking in. I suppose sneaking into things is one of his specialties. And he is a convenient foil.
Please forgive typos and grammatical flubs (do point them out, just don't laugh at my idiocy when you do - not that anyone has, you've been very nice about that!) -
gnine was a dear sister and beta'd this for me yesterday but I'm posting on very little sleep now, being as Lex was prodding me to write him smashed (Lex smashed, not me) at 6 AM (My 6 AM, not his; it was about 1 AM his time, and Why can't you just pass out when you've had that much scotch? I ask him; but this is Lex.)

Fic: All the Difference, part 2
Mar. 1st, 2007 04:42 pmYou know you've been living in Japan too long when eggs and mayo over rice with a little soy sauce for brunch is delicious. (It so is!)
Got great feedback (thank you!) to the first part of this, so I'm gonna go ahead and put up the next. (After a decade of posting fic online, one would think I'd get over the butterflies in my stomach every time I start sharing a new story, but...) Hope y'all enjoy!

fic: All the Difference (it begins!)
Feb. 26th, 2007 05:51 pmAll right, cats & kittens, lace up your boots and strap in for the long haul. The rough draft of this is 80 pages and counting (if I'm lucky, I've reached the halfway point. Note: when it comes to estimating story lengths, I am rarely lucky) and it's eating me alive.
I have a secret love for the basic premise of this story. I say secret because while I've started various fics with such a concept (ask me sometime about when Kaiba Seto met Mutoh Seto) this is the first I've posted in any fandom. So yeah, I'm enjoying the hell out of it! Hope you will, too.
Smallville: All the Difference, 1/? {2,007 words}
NC-17, Clark/Lex, futurefic, AU (halfway)
Lex Luthor wakes up in his own bed, in his own penthouse, infinitely far from home.

a bit of nothing much
Feb. 21st, 2007 03:17 amHave you ever written the start of something, then abandoned it, only to find it years later and reread it and realize you have absolutely no memory of where it was supposed to go?
So I suddenly recalled I had a snippet of SV from back when I first got into the fandom, and I remembered, vaguely, the premise, but upon reading the story itself I can't for the life of me recall how I was planning to end it. I don't know why I never write endings down. I've done this enough times that one would think I'd at least scribble an outline, but no, I always think I'm going to finish it before I forget. And then I don't. Anyway, in the spirit of
wip_amnesty (yeah, I know I'm a couple days late, sue me) here's the opening of an unfinished fic. The date for the file creation is January 17, 2002 (SV's first season) and while most of it was probably written sometime in the year after that (though before "Achilles' Heel", I'm pretty sure, as their themes are so similar I think I abandoned this to write that), it still was way before "Asylum" aired. I mention this because the basic plot is that Lionel subjects Lex to an "'accident" such that he loses most of his memory of Smallville, thus allowing him to become Lex Luthor of legend - because even in first season it was obvious that there was no way Lex wouldn't recognize Clark when Superman came out.
It's pretty dark, with a bit of NC-17 man-on-man smut (possibly the first I ever wrote) and Lex-being-evil. I believe it would have had a Clexy ending eventually (really, in my mind every SV fic ends, "And then they had sex, and lived happily ever after") but here there's just angst. And Superman strippers. Also a bit of awkward writing I didn't edit; my style has changed in the past five years. Though really not as much as I'd expect. I don't know if that's a good sign or a bad sign. I rather like the jarring quick-cuts here, I've been impatient with my overly prolix prose of late. (oo, triple word score, 'prolix' used in a sentence for the win!)
( Unfinished SV fic: Third )

sv/ss fic, part the end
Feb. 20th, 2007 06:24 amAnd here we are at the end of the story. Now is probably the time to point out that this fic is actually a direct sequel to this fic, which was written some four years ago (and thus no longer matches with current SV canon, but what can you do? Besides ignore current canon, which is the most satisfying way to deal with it anyway, imho.) I may have neglected to mention this earlier to avoid giving away most of this story.
I might write more in this general universe. It's one of my fave explanations of Lex, and I rather wish more fics would write him thusly. It's such a fun way to handle canon. And hey, it makes at least as much sense as the smartest man in the world failing to figure out that Superman + bad glasses - extra-strength hair mousse = Clark Kent.
According to Plan, all parts
PG, futurefic; Smallville/Static Shock crossover, + vague mentions of Justice League

I said it before, that I fell for Kaiba because he reminds me of Lex. Brilliant and deeply disturbed, casualties of their sadistic fathers' damage and their own ambitions. Kaiba is the more culpable of the two, having chosen his path rather than being born into it; ironic that he's the one to eventually rise above his darkness, while Lex is ultimately damned. Maybe it's because Lex is destiny's puppet victim, while Kaiba has always forged his own. Or maybe Lex just needs someone to shatter his heart.
Anyway. They're obviously a match made in some dark and deliciously twisted place.
I might've futzed with the YGO timeline; the story is set in the spring of '95, with Lex at 15 and Kaiba at 14 (for anyone flummoxed by imaging the real with the animated, please follow
praiseofshadows's lead and picture Kaiba as played by Gackt). The idea is that Gozaburo sent Seto to an American boarding school for a semester to practice his English; Seto took the opportunity to learn some other valuable life skills from the school's expert. I'm not confident of the characterizations of either one of them, but hell, they're just kids here. Seriously fucked up kids.
Exchange Student {9,795 words}
NC-17 (Warnings for underaged sex and references to child abuse), Lex Luthor/Seto Kaiba
Sometimes broken edges can almost fit together. Lex meets a boy one semester at Excelsior.

sv/ss fic, part 1
Jan. 21st, 2007 04:07 pmAnd for my next trick - a multiparter Smallville fic (my first!) and a crossover, just for kicks. Because we all love Static Shock! Or at least I do, and you should too, because it's fun and cute. And gay. Gay as only teenage boys who hug and have sleepovers and fight crime together can be. Gay as in the series creator actually said that Richie is gay, he just wasn't allowed to state it plainly on a Saturday morning cartoon. (No, really. Admittedly he was thinking more about being socially conscientious and not so much about throwing fuel on the already-blazing slash fire, but hey. You take what you can get.)
This fanfic - is not nearly as gay as it ought to be, all things considered. So there will be Virgil/Richie and Clex (naturally) but it's more a Lex Luthor story than anything, because supervillains are the r0xx0r. Yeah.
PG, futurefic; Smallville/Static Shock crossover, and I've been watching a lot of JLU lately so that might sneak in a bit, too.
For those unfamiliar with Static Shock, Robert Hawkins is the father of Virgil Hawkins, a.k.a. electric-charged superhero Static. Richie Foley is Virgil's best friend cum sidekick/partnercum lover, a.k.a. supergenius superhero Gear. And we all know who Lex Luthor and Superman are, yes? Excellent. On with the show!

sv fic: Ties that Bond
Jan. 18th, 2007 03:57 pmSo this is why I have issues ficcing in large fandoms--every idea I have, I become paranoid that someone else has written it already, and likely better than I ever could. What's one way around this? Why, to write an idea that everyone else has written before! In this spirit, I bring you Kryptonian pair-bonding Clex fic. Same great cliché taste, half the smut. Er. Though not for lack of trying. (And instantly I am paranoid that someone has written this variation before. I apologize, unknown writer whose idea I may have inadvertently pilfered!)
Warnings: There's an oblique reference to a relationship that might've been Lana, though I couldn't actually bring myself to type her name.
NC-17 action of the man-on-man kind. Set a bit after 6th season, in this vague indefinite I-haven't-actually-seen-any-6th-season-eps-except-the-premiere way.
Revoltingly sappy, relentlessly silly. What can I say? Clex brings out the worst in me.
"Mate or die. Um. Kinda."

smallville fic: This Mortal Coil
Jan. 11th, 2007 05:17 amSo, yeah. Smallville fanfic. This isn't a new thing for me; I've been OTPing the Clex for a good five years. I just haven't written any for a while. See, I have this love/hate relationship with the series. That is, I love the premise, and I love the Lex, and his daddy, and the pretty, pretty boys, and the HoYay, and the TWoP recaps, and--I don't really watch the show, because mostly I can't stand it. All that high school drama, like, gag me with a spoon. But. The fandom. Is worth it in spades. The fic is fantastic, the music videos are gorgeous, and, oh, the Clex. Clark Kent and Lex Luthor are made for each other and I will shout it from the rooftops and go down with this ship and no one will ever, ever convince me differently.
But the initial passion had cooled, as it does in true love, and it wouldn't be interfering with my busy fanning schedule, except last month
gnine was whining for something to read, so I threw the Identical series at her as it has been one of my all-time favorite fanfics since forever, and thus she saw the light in all its brazen bald glory. And dragged me back down into it. And tied me up and forced me to write fic. Or at least prodded me to consider doing so should inspiration strike, and the super-powered bunnies were annoyingly quick to oblige. Thus, we have this. Which is a one-shot, but not a one-time thing, I'm afraid to say.
Clex, Futurefic, angst, drama. PG-ish.
It was, when I initially conceived it, a comedy. Somehow, in the actual execution? Not so much.
